This lavoir is right next to the Canal du Nivernais at the port of Gannay-sur-Loire. I assume it was filled with water from the canal. The cross stones would have been used for laying clothes on to be rubbed clean.

Gannay-sur-Loire is in department 03 - Allier and we visited this lavoir on 29th April 2019.
